Baptsim is one of the most significant actions to happen on the face of the earth.  Glory to God! For a soul is literally brought down into death with Christ and is raised with Him, and an immortal soul is brought into the Life of the Trinity!  The soul is "illumined" and thus the significance of a special candle being used and given to the newly baptized Christian.  The custom of receiving a candle is proper to both the Western and Eastern Church.

The monks at Mt. Tabor seek to help solemnize this special event by providing a beautiful candle to help communicate this Holy Mystery.

Each candle would be customized with the baptismal name hand painted and either the hymn from Galatians, "All who have been baptized into Christ have put on the person of Christ Alleluia" (a favorite hymn sung in the Byzantine Church at certain times of the year and during the baptismal rite), or a more simple "In the Name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit".  Around the cross in gold lettering is inscripted "IC   XC   NI    KA"  which is an ancient short-hand for "Jesus Christ Conqueors".  This mystery is particularlly connected to baptism where within the soul of the baptized Christ actually overcomes and conqueors sin and death.   The Design is hand painted on a 14" X 7/8" beeswax taper, the paint used is a special beeswax paint with various pigment that will burn nicely through the years.  Each candle is made to order so please expect at least a two week wait in addition to the time for shipping.
