Mt. Tabor Guide to Fasting for Holy Week

LAZARUS SATURDAY and PALM SUNDAY

Lazarus Saturday: As on Saturday of Lent, but allowing oil.


Palm Sunday: As on a Sunday of Lent, but allowing fish and oil in honor of this solemn feast of

our Lord.


HOLY AND GREAT WEEK


During Holy Week: abstinence and fasting resume as during Lent, with the following

variations:


Holy and Great Thursday: The evening dinner is a solemn Holy Meal in memory of our Lord's

Last Supper. Fish and oil are allowed.


Usual Dinner Menu for Holy Thursday:

-Matzos, salt-water, and bitter herbs -Salad (e.g. spinach), and non-dairy dressing

-Fish (usually salmon) -Humus

-Brown Rice -Borshch (optional)

-Vegetables (ok to buy mixed, pre- -Dessert

sliced vegetables and steam them)


Holy and Great Saturday

"Breakfast" and "Lunch": hot tea, fruit juices, and fresh fruits (a concession instead of a total

fasting).

"Supper": soup.
